Currently, I serve as the Sustainability Strategy Manager at Interface, Inc. where I am responsible for connecting and aligning internal departments and stakeholders with the mission. I help lead global efforts to promote genuine company culture by building meaningful pathways for employees to tangibly live out company values. I have worked cross-departmentally with executives on sales, marketing, customer experience, and diversity/culture teams to develop communications that translate complex concepts into digestible assets used to inspire and educate associates.
I help build Interface’s internal purpose-driven brand by developing employee engagement programs focused on diversity & inclusion, community outreach, and education, empowering employees to contribute to creating positive global impacts. I cast vision and strategize creatively, helping Interface recognize unique opportunities to maximize its platform and leverage its influence.
Upon joining the company in 2015, I recognized a lack of diversity and viewed it as an opportunity to take initiative and provide new perspective to company executives. Over the past three years, my advocacy evolved into the opportunity to help craft, develop, and deploy fresh diversity & inclusion strategy across Interface's global business.
Here are a few things I learned about transforming organizational culture with diversity:
Celebrate vulnerability by creating safe spaces for people to share and embrace each other’s stories and experiences.
Take action by developing intentional, targeted initiatives that enhance employee experience and increase cultural competency.
Prioritize inclusion by creating an environment in which people of all backgrounds have room to comfortably express elements of their culture. Missing out on this can lead to rich, but disconnected silos.
Empower people managers to become diversity champions through providing voluntary opportunities to participate in external recruitment and internal mentoring efforts.
